Hi guys, I am still working on redoing my ad campaign that will be my 10th project but here are two pieces that have lingered from my Portfolio 1 class that I can't decide what to do with. The new york cityscape is the one I'm really stuck on, and the Boston piece is one that I have never received feedback on yet. I will be posting my ad campaign soon!
Times Square piece makes sense now, with the added text block holding some tourist information. 2 suggestions:
ReplyDelete1. Reconsider the street sign, so "Times" and "SQ" are closer together, giving you a bit more room to work with on the right side. Can you make that "I heart NY" look like it's a part of the sign... unify it with the sign itself (it appears quite different and separate currently).
2. Look closely at the text block shape... can it more closely follow the contour of the ink blot it sits inside? Does the blot need to expand? Not sure, but the 2 very different shapes need to work together in a better way.
Firefighters Memorial - Might you rework the background to become more developed, and interesting? Additional images and shapes (flames?) would help this. Revisit the typography - centered type has left some awkward line breaks. I wonder if the title could actually be a part of the background image - much larger, but more subtle, along the top of the design. Lastly - the portrait on right is so different in tone from the one on the left, can you replace it (or both) - so they appear to be of equal emphasis in the design?
Hope this helps
I agree with Coni on the NY poster in that the ink blot is connected to the street sign which is a standard rectangle feels very different to me and I am wondering if you would almost be able to incorporate the ink blot with the street sign just to give it a better flow through the page? Perhaps?
ReplyDeleteI think the firefighter one is a great in memoriam piece, the only thing I would say that the last strip in the flag sits awkwardly in the middle of that mans face, so I wonder if you reposition slightly to make the line all across his face or not at all? I also agree with the line break in the text can be hard to follow. I think it is a great memorial piece and very in-tune to the audience especially for such a sad occasion.
I agree with Colleen about the last stripe on the mans face for the memoriam piece. Other than that I enjoy both of them a lot. I love the feeling of the first one. I think it really gives off the mood of New York City.
ReplyDeletei agree with the flag on the mans face and then the other design just remove some of the dark black elements and replace it with some more new york elements instead
