Here is my current ad campaign. I took Art Direction as an online class and was not happy with the outcome so here is my (improved) version!
The client is Valspar Paint and these ad campaigns are designed to target to not just your every day person that wants to paint a wall in there house. After much research on Valspar and their advertising techniques I noticed their unique approach to painting a wall as more of an artistic and beautiful process.
I wanted to play off that idea, using Valspar as the only place for a true color perfectionist to shop at. Valspar is meant for people who want to paint their walls with colors inspired by their lives and things they do, places they do and things they see. Valspar is meant for people who don't just want "tan" but "sandy cove" instead because it reminds them of their vacation last year... I chose the approach of high saturated, editorial photography because I wanted to play back into the artistic feel Valspar has and I think the photos I chose really display beautiful, artistic photography.

A - I think this is a highly successful series of ads, accomplishing what you have intended for the series. And because they are so visually successful - what other project(s) can you add to this "campaign" to make it more comprehensive and extend it further? What items/events/web projects would your audience appreciate? I think you should continue thinking about this as more than just 3 ads. What if the client came back to you and said, what else can be done with this idea to market the paint to our audience? What design elements can you re-purpose in service to the next piece of this campaign?
ReplyDeletei like this one I'm wondering why you didn't have it in your portfolio book? this would be great as part of your first few pages. i like how you did the sections that zoom into the colors i also like the placement of your type face as well
ReplyDeleteI like it, i really enjoy the concept, i see this on outdoor bus billboard but i also look at this and i think is missing another element to tied it all together.
ReplyDeleteThis looks awesome! The way you pulled the colors out works great with the add and the imagery that you choose. For another element to tie everything together as an add campaign, perhaps make some sort of tear off with the color swatches? Maybe have it fold up into the page?
ReplyDeleteColleen and Amanda - I think this is a great idea. Since the call outs are rectangular, they already appear to have a resemblance to a book of swatches. You could include a tear off, OR design the book of swatches!
