Hello guys here is my first attempt of project 5. This is a poem book that when you open completely there will be a poster on the back. The feedback i got in class was to add more cloud and ad blue on the text side. So what i done so far was added the blue on the text side, but i also changed the color of the text to white to represent clouds and yellow to represent sunlight.
I was wondering if i should clean the illustration up a bit what do you guy think.

So I think I missed seeing this folded so I am a little confused on how it will be folded. My only thought would be that they look like 2 different pieces to me, the illustration is so detailed and has a lot going on and the poem is sporadic and aired out. I guess I would need to see it folded to fully understand it. Which may be a suggestion in itself =)
ReplyDeleteJose - one of the ways to unify back and front would be to use the typographically-designed title on both sides of the piece. The use of the same blue color is a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI do have a question about this title... the big "G" doesn't necessarily combine with the "iant" sitting on it's shelf. How can you unify these elements so we see the word "Giant"? Color?
You have asked us if you should revisit the illustration itself. I would encourage you to do this with an eye of using the black line work in a more subtle way and/or more fluid way. For instance - the line work in the stone cliff is a bit rough and too bold. Try using a slightly darker gray than the stones themselves to render the details in those stones.
Choosing to use thinner strokes inside of a form, and then use thicker strokes for the outside will start to enliven the illustrative style and make your lines more interesting.
Are you using a tablet? Are you in Illustrator or Photoshop? If you are in Illustrator, do you know how to apply a "style profile" to your stroke to make a thick/thin line? If you are in Photoshop, you can use brushes for this same purpose.
Yes, I'm looking forward to seeing this printed and folded to understand it.
